Drawing on more than fifteen years of research and fieldwork, Jonathan Dickinson weaves together clinical insights, traditional knowledge, and cutting-edge neuroscience to illuminate ibogaine’s unique capacity to transform consciousness.

At once memoir, cultural history, and critical inquiry, the book traces ibogaine’s journey from sacred use in Gabonese initiatory traditions to its contested place in contemporary psychedelic medicine. Dickinson examines the ways ibogaine disrupts addiction, reshapes models of the mind, and challenges prevailing models of trauma and healing, while situating these insights within broader questions of mind, self, and society.

With a rare combination of scholarly rigor and lived experience, Dickinson offers a narrative that is as deeply personal as it is globally relevant. Ibogaine and the Bicameral Mind invites readers to reconsider what it means to heal, to remember, and to imagine the boundaries of human potential.

"From the jungles of Gabon to underground clinics and Navy SEAL recovery programs, this transformative guide reveals ibogaine's potential to bridge spirituality and science, challenging conventional psychiatry and offering hope for those seeking radical healing. A must-read for anyone fascinated by psychedelics, consciousness, and the future of mental health. A must-read for anyone fascinated by psychedelics, consciousness, and the future of mental health."
