RESEARCH
Research is a creative activity that transforms our shared story of the world.
When we perform investigations, we must engage questions from various perspectives. The resolutions that we hope to uncover are often anamorphic, and data must be thoroughly examined from different frames of reference to dispel the fog of misunderstanding.
In some cases, our inquiries require us to discover an altogether novel vantage point.
Not all, but many scientists are resistant to immersing themselves inside of a psychedelic experience saying that they hope to maintain their 'objectivity.' However, this perspective (which does help to avoid academic and professional politics) ultimately introduces greater risk of cognitive bias by isolating out invaluable frames of reference.
Subjective Experience
Ibogaine Experience Questionnaire
PLOSOne
The IES is a new psychometric questionnaire designed to measure ibogaine's unique psychedelic effects in various ways. This was based on discussion in prior papers about the gap between existing tools -- such as the Mystical Experience Questionnaire -- and the phenomenology ibogaine.
Transpersonal Intersubjectivity in Ibogaine Experiences: Three cases
Anthropology of Consciousness
This report concludes an undergraduate thesis interviewing people who had taken iboga or ibogaine in various contexts and extracting examples of subjective data that can help to sharpen descriptions of ibogaine's effects. For example, it highlights the appearance of others, common throughout participant descriptions, as a commonality with widespread reports of sleep paralysis, another hypnagogic/hypnopompic state at the threshold of REM sleep and waking awareness.
Clinical Outcomes

Case report: Significant lesion reduction and neural structural changes following ibogaine treatments for multiple sclerosis
Frontiers in Immunology
This case series is both the first published mention of ibogaine's use in treating multiple sclerosis, as well as the first published outcomes looking at fMRI structural changes of patients before and after an ibogaine treatment. The two patients had RRMS and SPMS, both showing robust symptomatic improvement alongside beneficial structural changes in both grew and white matter. The former demonstrated a 71% reduction in lesion volume.

Magnesium–ibogaine therapy in veterans with traumatic brain injuries
Nature Medicine
This groundbreaking study involved 30 Navy SEALs who were treated with ibogaine at Ambio Life Sciences. They demonstrated robust and enduring reductions in symptoms of disability, PTSD, depression and anxiety related to their traumatic brain injuries (TBIs).
Case report: Ibogaine reduced severe neuropathic pain associated with a case of brachial plexus nerve root avulsion
Frontiers in Pain Research
This case describes the treatment of a man with severe, intractable neuropathic pain resulting from a motorcycle injury 20 years prior. Based on documented pain relief following an initial ibogaine flood dose, we developed a novel protocol based on the thesis of saturating the body with ibogaine and noribogaine for an extensive period. This resulted in robust, enduring pain relief, sustained with ongoing dosing.
Sourcing Iboga Alkaloids

Tabernanthe iboga from Gabon
Iboga Root: Dynamics of Iboga’s African Origins and Modern Medical Use
American Botanical Council
This invited plant profile highlights early reports of iboga sustainability issues challenges in Africa, and rising demand from Western clinics.

Tabernaemontana arborea from Mexico
Quantitative Evaluation of a Mexican and a Ghanaian Tabernaemontana Species as Alternatives to Voacanga africana for the Production of Antiaddictive Ibogan Type Alkaloids
Chemistry & Biodiversity
Metabolite Profiling of Anti-Addictive Alkaloids from Four Mexican Tabernaemontana Species and the Entheogenic African Shrub Tabernanthe iboga (Apocynaceae)
Chemistry & Biodiversity
This work, led by Dr. Felix Krengel at UNAM in Mexico, explored Tabernaemontana species in search of useful iboga alkaloids. Ultimately, it established the presence of ibogaine precursors in Mexican plants, particularly Tabernaemontana arborea.
